“I do not wish [women] to have power over men, but over themselves:” - Mary Wollstonecraft.
Women’s empowerment in simple words is, making women powerful. Women should be able to act freely, make their decisions, and exercise their rights. Empowering women implies supporting women to be confident, self-reliant, and independent.
Mistreating women and not considering them as equals, has been quite common throughout our history. They have been exploited and deprived of their basic rights. Gender equality is a mandatory prerequisite for a prosperous and peaceful world. Empowering women is crucial to the overall growth of households, communities, and nations.
"Educate a woman and you educate a generation" - Brigham Young
The start of the women empowerment moment cannot be exactly traced, as it was a cumulative phenomenon. Many protests, movements, and revolutions helped speed up the process. Though we have been making progress, there is a long way to go. Individuals and institutions can together make this happen. Policies have to be enforced to safeguard women and provide them with equal opportunities. We have to raise educated, healthy and happy girls. Understand, respect, and encourage women, and they will make wonders.
